Terms and Conditions

Code of Ethics and Confidentiality

As a member of the BACP, I am bound by their Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy and subject to their Professional Conduct Procedure.

I agree to respect you, your values and belief systems and work with you in a way that best suits your needs at the time.

Exceptions to Confidentiality

All the information you share with me at assessment and during sessions is confidential, however, I may need to breach confidentiality in the event that:

  • There is a risk to your health or safety.

  • There is a risk to the health or safety of someone else.

  • If you share information about a proposed act of terrorism or other illegal act (drug trafficking, money laundering etc.)

  • I reserve the right to contact your GP or other relevant services in these events. I will endeavour to inform you when this happens, but this may not always be possible.

  • In the event of my death or any physical or mental long-term incapacity my power of attorney will contact you to inform you of this. That person would be another therapist working by the same code of ethics as I do.

  • Any details used when making payment via BACS will identify you in my records. For tax purposes, my accountant and/or the Inland Revenue are able to request them.

Supervision

I undertake regular monthly supervision in accordance with the BACP Code of Ethics to provide the best possible service to my clients. Supervision is facilitated by another experienced therapist/supervisor who abides by the same standards for confidentiality. Process notes from counselling sessions are pseudonymised (i.e. first names only are used)

Sessions

  • ·        Clients hold autonomy in making contact for the session.

  • ·        All sessions, including the assessment (first) session will last 50 minutes.

  • ·        Sessions will take place on the same day at the same time each week.

  • ·        Should you be late, the session will still end at the agreed finish time.

Contact Between Sessions

In instances where you need to contact me between sessions, please text or email me at kmmtherapy@gmail.com and I will respond as time permits.

If you are having crisis and need to speak to someone immediately, don't delay, call 111 (NHS 24hrs) or Samaritans (116 123), or text 'shout' to 85258 (free 24hr text support service)

Endings

If you decide you no longer wish to continue counselling, please make this known within a session, in order that we can agree an end date and work towards an appropriate ending.
